Dare to Dream 4 Kids

Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine is proud to be honored in such a special way by Sue Pollard and her many friends. Sue has developed Dare to Dream 4 Kids and generously makes all donations to Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine, Inc. (AFFM) AFFM is a nonprofit charitable organization. All contributions are tax deductible.

AFFM provides supports to foster families who generally take from their own pockets to supplement the needs of the children in their care. Adoptive families served by AFFM frequently have limited resources for their very special need’s children. Getting resources for mentally, behaviorally and emotionally challenged youth is difficult. Kinship families may be the neediest group AFFM serves. Most kinship providers are grandparents raising their children’s children. Most grandparents are on limited or fixed incomes. The kinship providers very often are living in housing provided to senior citizens. Among other difficult issues to be face, when the children come to live with them new housing may be required. Items that many of us take for granted are considered luxuries to this population and it is not unheard of for families to go without basic staples in order to provide housing for their relative’s child/children. Proceeds of this charitable campaign will be used to provide increased support to families who open their hearts and homes to Maine’s children.

Supports that will directly impact families in crisis situations may include emergency fuel and/or energy assistance, the establishment of phone service, funds for travel to medical / psychiatric treatment, bereavement funds, and funds for immediate clothing needs, household furnishings, food and shelter.

Supports that will directly impact youth in out of home placements will include but are not limited to” music lessons and/or instruments, payment for driver’s education classes, special art classes, summer camp opportunities, household items to assist youth transitioning from foster care into independent living and post secondary education supply costs. (IE books and school supplies) The items provided to youth may contribute to them feeling more accepted by their peers and can assist the youth in an increase in their very often diminished self esteem.

Thank you for your prayers and financial contributions. Maine can be proud to have such strong and caring child and family advocates.

Thank you Sue for taking on this huge job and helping so many Adoptive and Foster Maine families!
